The Parrot, the Camel and the Snake

According to the German Heise magazine, Parrot 1.0 finally got released today. I think this is very exciting news. In general this means that the virtual machine of Rakudo is finally stable, which is great news all by itself. It also means that maybe we will even see a working version of Pynie in the near future, now that its basis has stabilised.

From all I hear Parrot is indeed very impressive, and I think it will mean a great step forward for Rakudo and Perl 6. Even I as a long-term Python user cannot help but be excited about the many improvements that Perl 6 brings. Should a complete Python implementation on top of Parrot really be possible in the future, all the better: then we would have two of the most powerful and popular dynamic languages working on top of the same infrastructure, dramatically increasing interoperability (the same goes for Ruby, of course).

It thus seems like Perl 6 might be nearly "there". Personally, I can't wait.
