SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 BETA Program Starting

Novell is about to begin the Beta programs for SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 which is expected to be released early in 2009.  There will be a general Beta program for end customers, and there will be a separate Beta program for ISVs to help them get their applications ready for when SUSE Linux Enteprise Server and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 ships.  We are planning on following the Linux Standard Base Version 4.0 (which is in development now) with the release of SLE 11.  Even if an ISV isn't picked to participate in the closed beta, the ISV will still have access to the Beta software for their own evaluation and development.

Some quick facts about SLE 11 is that it is planned on using the 2.6.27 version of the Linux Kernel with GlibC version of 2.8.  The GCC compiler being used will be version 4.3+ and GDB version will be 6.8+.  For those that are following the community version, the openSUSE 11.1 version will be in Beta at the same time and will give benefits to the Enterprise edition.

Lets get those applications ported!
